QR-Codes |

So what is this strange code that you’re seeing pop up everywhere these days?
Quick Response Codes, or QR Codes, are new 2D barcodes that can store several hundred times the information than the typical barcodes you see every day. They can also be read by many camera- and Internet-ready devices such as mobile phones. QR Codes are incredibly popular in Japan and are starting to spread elsewhere.
These new barcodes allow us to put instant information in the palm of your hand, making information about anything you can imagine readily available. It is as easy as snapping a photo of a code, which then links you directly to a given Internet site from the comfort of your camera- and Internet-ready mobile phone.
Take the case of the Puerto Rico Horror Film Fest 2009, for instance. Participants will see a number of different QR Codes during the course of the Festival. Every time you see one of these codes, take a photo with your Internet-ready mobile phone. Then, your phone will take you to the Web and whatever information Festival organizers would like you to see, will show up on your mobile screen. You’ll literally have information about the Puerto Rico Horror Film Festival right at your fingertips. It’s that easy!
How can I use a QR Code?
To activate any QR code you come across is quick and easy. But first you need to make sure that your camera- and Internet-ready mobile phone has QR Code-enabled technology.
If you are not sure your mobile has the technology or you would like to install it, visit of the following links:
For iPhone:
Visit “App Store” and perform a search for “QR reader”.
BlackBerry & other phones:
Find our whether your phone has the “Scanner” application.
If it does, open the program and use your phone’s camera to photograph the “QR code”.
